The 2023 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show did not disappoint. In case you missed the centennial celebration dedicated to the advancement of media and entertainment technology, here are my favorite technological advancements from the NAB show floor.
New AI-Powered Tools
One of the most significant trends that emerged at NAB 2023 was the increasing use of AI to improve all facets of television from creation to consumption. AI is transforming the way content is created, managed, distributed, and viewed, and NAB 2023 showcased a wide range of innovative AI applications that are already changing the industry.
AI-powered video editing was front and center. With the help of AI, video editors can now automate many of the tedious and time-consuming tasks that go into the post-production process. This includes everything from organizing footage to cutting and splicing clips, to adding transitions and special effects. AI-powered video editing tools will not only save time but also improve the quality and consistency of the final product.
Another area where AI is having a significant impact is in content creation. AI-powered applications are now being used to generate everything from automated news stories to sports highlights and even entire movies. These tools use machine learning algorithms to analyze vast amounts of data and create custom content tailored to specific audiences, which saves time and resources and enables media organizations to deliver personalized content at scale.
AI is also being used to improve the overall viewing experience for audiences. For example, some content providers are using AI to enhance the quality of their streams by automatically adjusting the video quality based on the viewer’s internet connection. This ensures that viewers always have a smooth and seamless viewing experience, regardless of their device or location.
VR & AR Have Arrived
In addition to these AI applications, NAB 2023 showcased several exciting advancements in broadcast technology. For example, there were several new advancements in the field of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). This included the development of new VR cameras, AR overlays, and immersive audio technologies that enable the creation of ever more engaging and interactive content.
Overall, NAB 2023 was a showcase of the more disruptive and innovative advancements in media and entertainment technology. From AI-powered video editing to VR and AR, the event highlighted the many ways that technology is transforming the industry. As we move forward, it’s clear that AI will play an increasingly important role in video workflows and broadcast television, enabling broadcasters to create more personalized, engaging, and immersive content than ever before.
